Sugababes: ‘I didn’t know I needed this until we did it’

It’s like the year 2000 all over again with The Sugababes, who are back with their original lineup and on tour in the UK.

After a previous relaunch in 2013 under the name MKS, the trio—Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena, and Siobhan Donaghy have rejoined and recovered their name.

There were reports from the event that when they played at Glastonbury this month, there were so many people there to watch them that the field had to be closed due to crowding.

Throughout its tenure in the pop spotlight, the lineup of the group underwent numerous changes, and by the time Sugababes released their final album, Sweet Drop 7, in 2010, it was composed of three completely different ladies.

A year or two after leaving the third generation of Sugababes in 2009, Keisha learned of their correspondence from her attorney.

She admits that at the time, she was “girl-banded out,” but she likens the original lineup and their debut record, One Touch, to a TV show that has abruptly ended.

When the group’s debut single, Overload, was released in 2000, they were only starting their adolescent years.

The band, in all of its incarnations, had ten top ten songs, including Freak Like Me, About You Now, Push The Button, and Hole In the Head.

The Sugababes were comprised of Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah, and Jade Ewen at the time their final album was published.

The original group previously got back together to release the single Flatline in 2013 and planned a new album at the time, but it never materialised outside of leaked demos for the abandoned album.

Mutya claims that they are now continuing where they left off with their debut album in 2022.

After leaving the band, Mutya and Siobhan both released solo music. Siobhan released two critically acclaimed albums and had a top 20 hit with her single, Overrated, while Mutya earned a streak of singles, including the legendary Song 4 Mutya.
