Harry Styles’ As It Was becomes longest-running US number one by a UK act

For the longest time, the number one song by a British artist on the US singles chart was “As It Was” by Harry Styles.

The song has spent a record-breaking 15 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, shattering the previous mark shared by Mark Ronson and Sir Elton John.

Uptown Funk and Candle In The Wind, their separate singles, both spent 14 weeks at the top of the charts.

Styles’ movie Don’t Worry, Darling presently holds the top spot on the US box office chart.

As It Was has spent 15 weeks at the top of the singles charts, making her the single artist with the fourth-longest-running number one in US chart history.

Billy Ray Cyrus and Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road currently hold the record with 19 weeks. Each song ruled for 16 weeks: Despacito by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber, and One Sweet Day by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men.

Between April and June, As It Was spent ten weeks at the top of the UK charts.

The former member of One Direction has joined a select group of musicians who have topped both the music and box office charts at the same time, including Eminem and Prince.

Fans continued to visit theatres despite the picture, Don’t Worry Darling, which was directed by Styles’ partner, Olivia Wilde.

The film, which also stars Chris Pine and Florence Pugh, earned a respectable $19.2 million (£17.7 million) in its first weekend in North America.

Thanks to media accounts of tension behind-the-scenes and on-screen fights during production, the movie has received a lot of attention recently.
