ActionAid Association Mourns the Death of Aid Workers in Gaza  

ActionAid Association deeply mourns the tragic death of seven aid workers delivering food in Deir Al-Balah, Gaza, on 2^nd April 2024. These deaths are demonstrative of the continuing crisis in the area caused by the continuing conflict.

We express our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected by this act of violence, and join the world in saluting all humanitarian workers who courageously give their all to serve humanity.

The United Nations reports that at least 196 humanitarian workers have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict, highlighting the urgent need for accountability and justice..

The death of aid workers will lead to further devastation in Gaza, with World Central Kitchen, the charitable organisation providing food aid to Gazans, announcing on Tuesday its immediate suspension of operations in the region. This suspension further compounds the challenges faced by the already vulnerable population in Gaza.

The situation in Gaza is dire, with much of the population on the brink of starvation, according to the United Nations. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) recently warned that 70% of people in northern Gaza are on the verge of famine. Ongoing hostilities, mass displacement, and restricted humanitarian access have exacerbated the suffering of millions across the region.

ActionAid Association urges the international community to take immediate and decisive action to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. We call for a thorough and impartial investigation into the killing of aid workers and demand accountability for those responsible. All parties involved must prioritise the protection of civilians and facilitate unhindered access to humanitarian aid.

We call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Our thoughts remain with the people of Gaza during this challenging time, and we stand in solidarity with them as they strive for peace, justice, and dignity.
