Emma Raducanu, the British tennis sensation who claimed victory at the US Open in 2021, will be gracing the courts at the Nottingham Open this June. Opting to forgo the upcoming French Open, the 21-year-old aims to channel her efforts towards the grass-court season, a segment she missed last year due to surgical procedures on both wrists and one ankle.
Kicking off on June 8th, the Nottingham event marks the initiation of the British grass-court swing in the WTA Tour calendar, leading up to the prestigious Wimbledon tournament commencing on July 1st.
Raducanu has previously competed in Nottingham twice, encountering mixed fortunes. In 2021, she fell to her compatriot Harriet Dart, while in the subsequent year, she withdrew from her first-round match against Viktorija Golubic due to injury after just seven games.
Among the competitors at Nottingham is Katie Boulter, the British player who clinched her maiden WTA Tour title at the same event in 2023.
Additionally, the tournament features esteemed players such as Tunisia’s world number nine, Ons Jabeur, the 2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic, and the 2020 Australian Open victor Sofia Kenin of the United States.
