Singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has officially prolonged his touring hiatus, citing improved health and the need for personal reflection during the six-month break initiated in June. This decision follows vocal challenges experienced by Capaldi during a performance at Glastonbury.
Capaldi, famed for the hit “Someone You Loved,” revealed on social media that he has been collaborating with professionals to manage Tourette’s syndrome and anxiety. Expressing gratitude for the unwavering support of his fans, Capaldi announced the imminent release of an extended version of his second album, “Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent,” featuring five new songs.
In his social media update, Capaldi emphasised his commitment to continued self-care, potential music creation, and introspection on the extraordinary years of his career. He stressed the importance of ensuring his well-being is at its peak before returning to the stage for more shows, underscoring the significance of sharing his cherished songs with his audience.
Addressing the impact of fame and the weight of expectations, which he candidly discussed in the Netflix documentary “Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now,” Capaldi admitted to initial fears of disappointing his fans. However, he credited the overwhelming support from his audience for dispelling those fears and keeping his music resonating.
Capaldi’s sophomore album, “Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent,” enjoyed considerable success, amassing 95,000 chart units in its debut week in May 2023. While initially holding the title for the year’s most substantial opening, this achievement was later surpassed by Taylor Swift’s reissued “1989.”
Reflecting on the trajectory of his career, Capaldi’s first album dominated the UK sales charts in 2019 and sustained its success into 2020, solidifying his position as a noteworthy contributor to the music industry. Despite the pressures and expectations, Capaldi’s decision to prioritise well-being and artistic reflection remains central to his musical journey.
