Karachi Suicide Blast Claims Lives of Two, Targets Foreign Nationals

A suicide blast in Karachi on Friday claimed the lives of at least two individuals, targeting a vehicle carrying foreign nationals, according to a report by Geo News. Although all five foreigners in the vehicle survived the attack, the suicide bomber and two terrorists were killed during a subsequent exchange of gunfire with police.

The attack underscores the ongoing threat of terrorism in Pakistan, with extremist groups seeking to destabilise the government and impose their own interpretation of Islamic law. Over the past few years, Pakistan has witnessed several deadly attacks, often targeting foreigners, including Chinese nationals, as reported by Reuters.

Following the blast, Japanese survivors were placed under police custody in a secure location, confirmed Abrar Hussain Baloch, a police spokesperson. Despite the incident, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far.

The Karachi Police verified the nature of the attack as a suicide bombing and reported damage to another vehicle in the vicinity due to the explosion. Initial police reports also indicated that the second terrorist killed during the encounter was equipped with a suicide jacket and a grenade, highlighting the severity of the threat.

Law enforcement authorities disclosed that the foreign nationals targeted in the attack were employed in the export processing zone, as revealed by Geo News. Jinnah Hospital officials stated that three injured individuals, including two security guards and a bystander, were admitted to the medical facility. However, none of the injuries were sustained by foreign nationals.

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, with one security guard recounting how the terrorist opened fire on the vehicle after the explosion, as reported by Geo News. Meanwhile, Sindh governor Kamran Tessori condemned the terrorist attack in Landhi and instructed the city’s police chief and inspector general to submit a detailed report on the incident. Governor Tessori reiterated the government’s unwavering stance against terrorism, emphasising that such acts would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the persistent security challenges facing Pakistan, particularly in major cities like Karachi. Despite ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism, the threat posed by extremist elements remains a significant concern, requiring continued vigilance and coordinated action to ensure the safety and security of all citizens and foreign visitors.
