Anand Sagar Sharma, a trailblazer in the eCommerce sector, has recently been honored as one of the “40 under 40” industry leaders by World Brand Affairs. Currently serving as the Senior Manager of eCommerce Sales at Timex Group India Ltd, Anand’s journey from a small town in Himachal Pradesh to a prominent role in the watch industry is both inspiring and noteworthy.
Born and raised in Una, Himachal Pradesh, Anand completed his education in his hometown before embarking on a career that would eventually lead him to the dynamic world of eCommerce. He began his professional journey at Godrej in the IT domain, but it was in 2009 that he recognized the burgeoning potential of eCommerce. This realization prompted him to pursue an MBA in Marketing from a prestigious institution in Delhi, where he honed his skills and prepared for the challenges ahead.
Anand’s eCommerce career officially began in 2010 when he joined a startup, gaining invaluable experience that laid the groundwork for his future endeavors. He subsequently held key positions at renowned companies, including Casio and Timex, accumulating over 14 years of experience in eCommerce and a decade in the watch industry.
In his current role at Timex Group India Ltd, Anand has been instrumental in transforming the company’s online sales strategy. When he joined in 2019, eCommerce was regarded as merely a liquidation channel, contributing less than 10% to the company’s overall turnover. However, through strategic initiatives and a focused approach, Anand has elevated eCommerce’s contribution to an impressive 38% in 2024. His responsibilities encompass managing the entire P&L portfolio for Timex brands, overseeing product launches, and ensuring exceptional customer experiences across major platforms.
Prior to Timex, Anand served as the Assistant Manager of Online Sales at Casio India, where he successfully drove sales through various online channels, including Amazon and Flipkart. His innovative strategies resulted in significant revenue growth, demonstrating his ability to navigate and thrive in the fast-paced eCommerce landscape.
Anand’s educational background complements his professional achievements. He holds a PG Certification in Digital Marketing and Communication from MICA, along with a six-month certification from IIT Delhi in Management of Technology. Timex Group, founded in 1854, is renowned for its craftsmanship and commitment to producing high-quality watches. The company’s mission focuses on understanding consumer needs and delivering exceptional products at accessible prices. Under Anand’s leadership, Timex continues to innovate, expanding its offerings while maintaining a customer-centric approach.
Reflecting on his journey, Anand shares that his inspiration stems from witnessing the evolution of eCommerce in India. From the early days of Flipkart selling books to the rise of direct-to-consumer brands and social media advertising, he has been at the forefront of this transformation. His passion for leveraging technology to enhance customer experiences drives his vision for the future.
Looking ahead, Anand aims to further expand Timex’s online presence and explore innovative avenues for growth. His short-term goals include launching new product lines and enhancing the company’s digital marketing strategies.
