Pat Cummins secured a hat-trick as Australia triumphed over Bangladesh by 28 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, launching their Super 8s campaign with a victory to maintain a flawless record at the T20 World Cup.
After restricting Bangladesh to 140-8, David Warner’s unbeaten 53 off 35 balls steered Australia to 100-2 before rain curtailed play in Antigua.
Cummins became only the second Australian to claim a T20 World Cup hat-trick, dismissing Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan in the 18th over, followed by Towhid Hridoy in the 20th.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with 41, but Adam Zampa’s 2-24 and Hridoy’s 40 off 28 balls weren’t enough to challenge Australia’s dominance.
Despite a brief rain delay and Rishad Hossain’s two wickets, Warner’s solid performance ensured Australia’s victory.
Australia now shares the top spot in Group 1 with India and will face Afghanistan next, while Bangladesh will play against India.
