Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has become the most popular and top-ranked spinning bowler in the latest ICC men’s rankings. Before Ravichandran Ashwin, James Anderson was on top of this position, but his summit comes to an end. Ashwin received this position after taking six wickets in his most recent match. India’s convincing victory over Australia in the second Test, while Anderson fell to second after England’s shocking loss to New Zealand in the Wellington Test.
In the final two Tests on Indian soil in the upcoming “Border-Gavaskar Trophy series” against Australia, Ashwin has a chance to maintain his current hold on the No. 1 spot. After Anderson’s last-minute replacement of Australia leader Pat Cummins at the top spot, Ashwin is the third No. 1 Test bowler in as many weeks. According to the most recent rankings, this group still comprises the top three bowlers.
After a phenomenal showing during the initial Test match against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui, England’s 40-year-old bowler Anderson got the top bowling ranking. However, he has since lowered his score by seven points to 859 and moved into second place.
Despite the veteran’s continued impact in the extraordinary second test, where he claimed three top-order wickets in the first innings, he is currently five rating points behind Ashwin, who is still leading with 864 points.
Another significant mover in the all-rounder rankings is England’s Joe Root, who rose two spots to eighth. Root’s comeback to form in Wellington also helped him move up to third place in the ICC Test Batting Rankings, passing Travis Head and Babar Azam.
With another outstanding century, England’s rising star Harry Brook moved up 15 spots to tie Virat Kohli for the 16th position in the batting rankings, continuing his stratospheric rise.
There have been some intriguing shifts in the ODI rankings, but the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings has remained fairly unaltered.
Scotland spinner Mark Watt recently achieved a career high in the League 2 tournament and climbed to the 17th spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings after claiming 13 wickets in four games in Nepal.
