UK plastic surgeons have published new recommendations to make Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) operations safer for patients seeking a larger bottom.
The procedure, which involves removing fat from another area of the body, such as the belly, and injecting it into the buttocks, has resulted in the deaths of some women.
The British Association of Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) advises against giving very deep injections.
The risk of death from BBL surgery is at least ten times higher than that from many other treatments, according to the NHS, and it has the highest death rate of all cosmetic procedures.
The possibility that the fat injections could result in a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism, or obstruction of a blood vessel in the lungs, is a major cause for concern.
The BAAPS claims that when injections are made deep into the muscle, it can cause issues with the fat-grafting technique.
Surgery of any kind involves hazards. Cosmetic surgery can go wrong and have unexpected effects.
Go back to the surgeon who operated on you if you experience any issues throughout your recuperation, such as indications of a potential infection (increased edoema, redness, or pain).
If you are unhappy with the results or believe the surgery was improperly performed, you should raise the issue with your surgeon through the hospital or clinic where you received treatment.
While the General Medical Council maintains a record of doctors’ education and registration status, the Care Quality Commission supervises some cosmetic procedures performed in England.
Fitness coach Lol (Laura) Darby, 28, is from Newcastle and works online. To “expand her glutes,” she decided to go to the gym. Her journey has taken almost three years to complete.
“I work out five days a week, but on the weekends, I still eat pizza and drink prosecco with the girls. It all comes down to balance. A BBL never crossed my mind. I’ve undergone previous operations for things that I know I can’t change with exercise, but I was confident that with dedication and hard effort, I could get into the shape I desired on my own.”
