Following a cancer diagnosis, TV chef Dave Myers has disclosed that he is undergoing chemotherapy.
Along with Si King, the 64-year-old is best known as one half of the celebrity cooking team, the Hairy Bikers.
Myers informed his pal and fellow chef on their Agony Uncles podcast that he would be taking a vacation from shooting and some public engagements.
“Anyway, Kingy, I’ve got to come clean now,” he said. Recently, I haven’t been feeling well.”
“And, as you know, I have to go through chemo, so this year will be a little quiet for me.”
“I won’t be filming and won’t be able to visit some of the festivals; others might be fine, but this year is a wash for us.”
Myers, who has also featured on Countdown and Strictly Come Dancing, requested that fans respect his privacy as he undergoes treatment for unidentified cancer, explaining that he didn’t want to hide under a rock. But look, the prognosis is excellent; I’ll be well,” he added.
For the time being, the TV personality said he planned to “tuck in, look after me, eat properly, get over this issue, flog books, and be a happy person” for the foreseeable future.
Myers and King met in the 1990s and went on to present The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook on BBC TV together starting in 2004. They rode their motorcycles across the United Kingdom, putting on exhibitions like the Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain and publishing books and recipes online along the way.
Both of them have dealt with health concerns in the past. Myers revealed to viewers in 2018 that he had been diagnosed with glaucoma, claiming that he had dismissed the eye ailment as a bad hangover.
Meanwhile, King has freely discussed his 2014 brain aneurysm and the necessity of his subsequent weight loss.
