Employees of Twitter speak out about Elon Musk

Current and former Twitter employees had mixed reactions to Elon Musk’s announcement that he would buy the company.

For some, such as Ned Miles, Monday was just “another exceedingly average day working at an extremely normal corporation.”

Could someone please tell me whether I’m wealthy or fired? He sent out a tweet.

While several members of the board of directors have expressed qualms about Mr Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, the board’s most senior member has endorsed the deal.

Bruce Daisley was once Twitter’s most senior employee outside of the US, serving as vice-president for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

On Monday, Twitter’s CEO, Parag Agrawal, and the chair of the board of directors, Bret Taylor, attempted to answer questions from employees.

According to the New York Times, there were concerns that Musk’s erratic management style would upset Twitter’s culture and years of work cleaning up the platform’s “poison spots.”

Twitter has previously spent time looking into the political and racial biases in its algorithms. Mr Musk has promised to open-source the company’s recommendation algorithms to increase confidence. His choice as CEO has been criticised by several Twitter employees who work in the field of machine learning.

Twitter’s director of machine learning ethics, transparency, and accountability, Rumman Chowdhury, had previously indicated that a Musk takeover could lead to a workforce exodus, and she had previously backed the company’s decision not to nominate him to its board of directors.

Since the board approved Mr Musk’s offer, Ms Chowdhury has been posting tweets from coworkers. According to Verge’s Casey Newton, some employees were “open to the concept that a private Twitter operated by Musk has a better chance of enhancing the service than a public corporation accountable to its shareholders.”They were drawn to Mr Musk’s plan to “eliminate bad bots and add greater transparency into how recommendation algorithms work,” he added.
